Privacy and security

The protection of your privacy and personal data while you are using our website is important to us. We therefore strictly comply with the provisions contained in the data protection laws. We will explain to you below what information we collect while you are on our website and how this information is used.

Personal data

Personal data are data which can be linked to you personally and which say something about your behaviour or characteristics. This naturally includes your name, postal address, telephone number and e-mail address, as well as information on your possible interests if this information can be directly or indirectly attributed to you personally.

Storing access data

Each visit to our website causes access data to be stored in a log file on our provider’s server.
This data record consists of your IP address, the date and time of the request, the name of the file requested, the file name from which the file was requested, the data volume transmitted and the access status, a description of the web browser and operating system used, as well as the name of your Internet service-provider. These data are collected for technical reasons. They are only evaluated for statistical purposes, and are not linked to individuals’ identities.

We store cookies on your hard disk (small text files containing configuration information). These contain an unambiguous number which is meaningless outside our website. These are usually “session cookies” used to ease your navigation which are automatically deleted at the end of your visit. Other cookies are stored on your device until you delete them. These cookies enable us to recognise your browser when you visit us again. Cookies are not used to collect personal data.
You are entitled and enabled to configure your browser to reject our cookies, but this may restrict the functionality available to you on our website.

Requesting/ordering information

So that we can provide the service you request, we need your name and contact data. We only collect and use these data where this is necessary to provide our service. This may make it necessary to pass on your personal data to companies we commission to provide the service. They will not be communicated to recipients in third countries.

Use of social media buttons with “Shariff”

We use data protection-safe “Shariff” buttons on our website in order to include the Facebook, Twitter and Google+ networks. Shariff was developed by specialists at the computer magazine c’t in order to make web searches more private and to replace the social networks’ customary “Share” buttons. No direct link is created between your browser and the social networks when you visit our website. The social networks are therefore also not informed that you have visited our site with your IP address. The Shariff button only creates a link with the social networks when you as a user actively click on the share button in question.
