For the first time in its 50-year history, the Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development of the Federal Republic of Germany has developed a unified strategy which should establish the principles governing its cooperation achievements in all areas of education. It is not yet finally edited. Suggestions from consultations, e.g. at the German Adult Education Conference, or at the World Assembly of the International Adult Education Council (International Council for Adult Education – ICAE) will in all probability still be considered.
Germany is one of the largest donors in the field of education aid. Its policies certainly have influence on the priorities and forms of bilateral and multilateral international cooperation. We publish the latest draft, which should be largely identical to the final text, and have a background discussion with Karin Jahr de Guerrero the Deputy Head of the Education, Health, Population Policy Division. A response comes from Rajesh Tandon, a longstanding partner of DVV International, and Director of the Indian Society for Participatory Research in Asia – PRIA, and Chilean Marcela Ballara, from the Latin American women’s network REPEM, who is also a member of the editorial advisory board of Adult Education and Development.
