Continental project Africa

Since 2023, DVV International has been running the African continental project from its offices in Cape Town. The project was born out of the recognition that while there exists extensive experience and expertise in the field of adult learning and education (ALE) on the African continent, African countries often continue to follow external models in the development of ALE. Regional and continental representation of interests, on the other hand, is rather weak.

The continental project was launched to promote networking and exchange on the continent, share proven concepts and develop common African positions for discourse on international education. The aim is to bring the specific educational needs of the continent more into the global focus and at the same time benefit from African expertise.

In Africa in particular, the non-formal education sector is an indispensable complement to the often weak formal education system. Furthermore, the major current challenges such as poverty, food security, climate change and migration can only be overcome with functioning ALE systems.

Main areas of work

  • Networking, exchange and lobbying: Digital and face-to-face formats are used to identify key topics for the joint representation of ALE interests, support these causes with evidence and transport them into the political dialogue.
  • Research and evidence: DVV International aims to strengthen academic discourse on ALE in Africa across traditional departments and sectors and spread the knowledge gained throughout the continent.
  • Digital platform MOJA: MOJA serves as a central digital platform for networking, dialogue and learning. It offers ALE stakeholders in Africa the opportunity to network thematically, learn from one other and initiate new debates.
  • Capacity building for ALE actors: Webinars and face-to-face events provide national and regional actors with targeted support to expand their expertise and strengthen their advocacy skills.

Partners

The continental project co-operates with various strategic partners, in particular with the West African network PAMOJA.

MOJA is an online platform for adult learning and education professionals and practitioners in Africa.
