On 12 February, DVV International celebrated the ceremonial opening of its Regional Office for South Asia in Colombo, Sri Lanka. While the organisation has been present in Sri Lanka since 2023, the event marked the expansion of activities across the country’s provinces and introduced DVV International and its work in the region to a broader range of stakeholders.

The occasion also included the introduction of the Lifelong Learning Pathways Model, jointly developed with government partners over recent months, which will form the foundation of DVV International’s future work in the region.

The event brought together distinguished dignitaries, partners and stakeholders from government, international agencies and civil society, who gathered to witness this new phase of collaboration in adult and lifelong learning.

The ceremony began with the traditional lighting of the oil lamp, accompanied by a captivating cultural performance that set the tone for a day of inspiration. Video messages from Esther Hirsch, Acting Director of DVV International Germany, and Meike Woller, Senior Desk Officer for South and Central Asia, underlined the global commitment to fostering inclusive learning pathways.

Sonja Belete, Regional Director of DVV International South Asia, shared the organisation’s strategic vision for the region. “Our aim is to connect communities, governments and institutions, creating pathways that enable every individual to access quality learning throughout life,” she said.
