DVV International Director visits Ukraine

Christoph Jost, Director of DVV International, visited Ukraine in November 2021. The aim of the visit was to learn in depth about the current project work of DVV International in the country, visit partners and discuss the further development of the adult learning and education sector with stakeholders from the national and local level.

On 23 November, the further-developed draft of the Adult Education Law was discussed at the Ministry of Education and Science. High ranking officials from the Ministry (First Deputy Minister Andrii Vitrenko, General Director of the Directorate of Professional Higher Education Oleh Sharov) and the national parliament Verkhovna Rada (Members of the Parliamentary Committee on Education Yulia Hryshyna and Roman Hryshchuk) as well as experts from civil society (Executive Director of the Ukrainian Adult Education Association Mykyta Andriiev) participated in the fruitful exchange with representatives of DVV International.

Christoph Jost had already attended a meeting in 2017 in Kyiv that kicked off the process of the development of the Adult Education Law for Ukraine. During this year’s visit, Christoph Jost was convinced that progress and results had been achieved since then. The comprehensive process was supported by DVV International Ukraine and involved various stakeholders from governmental agencies, employers’ associations, civil society and academia. It is expected that the Ukrainian Government will present the draft of the Adult Education Law to the national parliament for its adoption in the coming months. The law, when adopted, will open up new opportunities for the Ukrainian adult education sector.

In Lviv, Andrii Sadovyi, Mayor of Lviv, and his colleagues from the city administration (Natalia Bunda, Head of the Development Department and Oleksandr Kobzarev, Director of the City Institute) discussed with representatives of DVV International how cooperation between the city and the Institute could be further strengthened. In 2020, Lviv authorities approved the programme for promotion of non-formal education which is being implemented in cooperation with DVV International Ukraine. The city of Lviv therefore considers DVV International an important partner in the promotion of adult learning offers for the people of the city.
