DVV International supports employability training for young Afghans

From 2016, the Afghan Adult Education Association ANAFAE helps young people acquire highly demanded skills such as IT competencies and Business English. Successful participants can obtain an internship.

Unemployment among young people in Afghanistan is increasing over the years, and economic growth of the country has decreased from 14,4 % in 2012 to about 2 % in 2015. While hundreds of thousands of young people leave the country, the Afghan National Association for Adult Education (ANAFAE) has developed and started a joint education programme for some 100 students to provide better chances for job opportunities. DVV International and the Chamber of Commerce and Industries (ACCI) in Balkh are supporting the programme.

The programme started in January 2016 and focuses on office and business skills, information and communication technology, and proper Business English. The curriculum has been designed and implemented by a group of experienced Master Trainers of ANAFAE with the support of DVV International and is based on the “Expert Personal Business Skills” programme of the VHS in Germany. Additional components like business English and the “Expert Computer Driving License” were added. Beneficial student-centred, participatory methods and close cooperation with potential employers are key for this new education programme at the ACCI training centre in Mazar-e-Sharif, one of Afghanistan’s largest cities.

The best-performing students can join the Job Fair Campaign Program to get job vacancies provided by Balkh Chamber of Commerce and Industries in private sectors and companies. Sufficiently qualified graduates who cannot join the Job Fair Campaign programme can participate in internships supported by ANAFAE and the ACCI and get more work experience in order to enter a qualified career.

DVV International has been supoorting Adult Education in Afghanistan since 2002.
