During a ceremony on 3 October 2023 in Lexington, Kentucky, Uwe Gartenschlaeger, Director of DVV International, was inducted into the International Adult and Continuing Education Hall of Fame (IACE Hall of Fame) along with six other colleagues from the USA and Germany.
Hosted by the University of Oklahoma, the IACE Hall of Fame honours scholars, researchers and practitioners who promote the value of adult and continuing education in outstanding ways.
The Hall of Fame was created not only to honour leaders in the fields of continuing education and adult learning but also to serve as a record and inspiration for the next generation of continuing education leaders.
In his laudation, Séamus Ó Tuama, Director of the Centre for Adult Continuing Education at the University of Cork, Ireland and Chair of the ASEM LLL Hub stressed, in particular, Uwe Gartenschlaeger’s work with DVV International in Eastern Europe and Asia as well as his contribution to the development of Adult Learning and Education in Europe in his capacity as the President of the European Association for the Education of Adults since 2019.
The other colleagues inducted into the International Adult and Continuing Education Hall of Fame in 2023 were: Aaron Benavot (USA), John Boulmetis (USA), Anke Grotlueschen (Germany), Kimberly D. Osborne (USA), John Parker (USA) and William J. Rothwell (USA). In addition, the International Council for Adult Education (ICAE) was inducted as an institution.
