Georgian-German Culture Prize 2016 goes to Nino Haratischwili

Although Georgian, she writes in the German language and has found a place in the hearts of her audience. DVV International and the Goethe-Institut have honoured her because of her contributions to the cultural relations between the two countries.

For the fourth time, the Goethe Institute and DVV International 2016, present the award named after the German-Georgian writer Giwi Margwelaschwili for achievement in cultural relations between Germany and Georgia – this time to the writer Nino Haratischwili. She has been able – especially with her bestseller The Eighth Life (For Brilka), acclaimed both by critics and readers – to put Georgia and Georgian history on the inner map of tens of thousands of readers in Germany.

The award ceremony will take place on May 8, 2016 at 17:00 at the Mikheil Tumanishvili Theatre in Tbilisi (Aghmashenebeli Prosp. 164), combined with the German-Georgian premiere of the play Anger by Nino Haratischwili, produced by the Tumanishvili Theater and the Freiburg Theatre. The laudation will be made by the Georgian playwright Davit Gabunia.
