The International Council for Adult Education (ICAE) has appointed Professor Katarina Popovic as new Secretary General. Katarina Popovic will begin her work on 1 July; she succeeds Celita Eccher who has held the position for the last thirteen years.
Katarina Popovic is a professor at the University of Belgrad, Vice President of theEuropean Association for the Education of Adults (EAEA) and President of the Serbian Adult Education Society. The Serbian Adult Education Association is the main partner of DVV International in Serbia and, in her function as President, Katarina Popovic worked for many years in collaboration with DVV International. Together, the two institutions concentrated on building up Adult Education institutions and offers which respond to needs, as well as supporting the Government in the necessary process of transition.
“To be the Secretary General of ICAE is a great honour and huge responsibility”, Katarina Popovic commented. “I cannot think of a more important task in the field of global Adult Education than to run an organization like ICAE – to be the voice and representation of adult learning and to fight for the right to education for everyone.”
