MOJA Journal Issue 4: education, dialogue and peacebuilding

The fourth issue of the MOJA Journal of Adult Education – published by DVV International’s Africa Continental Project – is now available in English. Focusing on safety, security and peacebuilding, the publication explores the role of adult learning and education, dialogue, and indigenous African knowledge in addressing conflict and promoting peaceful coexistence.

Across the world, full-scale wars, regional conflicts and local tensions continue to affect societies and communities. Climate change is also contributing to food insecurity and migration, which can intensify existing conflicts and create new ones.

The journal explores how conflicts can be prevented, mitigated and transformed. While political and military interventions often dominate responses to conflict, the contributions in this issue point to the importance of dialogue as a pathway towards meaningful and sustainable peace.

Adult learning and education, together with indigenous African approaches, have an important role to play in this process. Through dialogue, learning and community-based engagement, people can develop alternatives to violence and build trust across divides.

The articles also demonstrate that dialogical approaches to peacebuilding are not new. In many African countries, historical and indigenous practices have long provided ways for conflicting parties to engage with one another, seek understanding and work towards reconciliation.

The new issue is aimed at adult education practitioners, civil society organisations, policymakers and all those interested in the links between education, dialogue and peace. The French edition will be published shortly.
