Prof. Dr. Mohammed Belghazi, our longtime colleague, died on 8 July in Rabat, Morocco after a serious illness. Almost exactly one year ago, in July 2018, he still took part in a conference in Bonn with all the country directors of DVV International.
Mohammed had worked for DVV International since 2008. He headed the Morocco country office and among other things built up a very successful network of Moroccan adult education centres (“Université pour tous”) in recent years.
He was a very well interconnected, universally appreciated and inspiring partner who was able to follow conventional and less conventional paths. He maintained a lively exchange with his colleagues especially from the countries of the Africa Programme and inspired many of them. Without his groundwork, DVV International would not have been able to launch its North Africa project that extends beyond Morocco.
For so many of us Mohammed was not only a dedicated, cosmopolitan and experienced colleague, but also a friend with an open house, an open ear and an open heart. All DVV International colleagues are grateful for the time they spent with Mohammed and, together with his relatives, mourn his loss.
