In June 2021, DVV International started the implementation of the project International ESD Alliances, which supports 12 participating partner organisations of adult education from seven countries in the implementation of Education for Sustainable Development (ESD). The project focuses on the holistic orientation of the organisations towards sustainable development criteria in the sense of the Whole Institution Approach (WIA). The project is funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research of Germany.

The aim is not only to anchor ESD in the programme offerings of the participating educational organisations, but also to implement it as a cross-cutting theme in the organisation – be it in the area of procurement, building management, personnel selection and development, partner networks, communication and other organisational areas. The project thus makes a valuable contribution to achieving the ESD for 2030 UNESCO roadmap for sustainable development.

The participating partners are accompanied by a team of international experts who support the organisational development processes. In the course of the project, products will be developed based on the experiences and the active exchange between the partner organisations, which will promote the implementation of the Whole Institution Approach in adult education institutions worldwide.

The participating adult education institutions are located in the following countries: Germany, Japan, Austria, Philippines, Switzerland, Slovenia, South Africa.
