State recognition of Curriculum globALE in Kosovo

DVV International's Curriculum globALE has been formally recognised by the Kosovan Ministry of Education as a continuing education programme.

Since 2015, DVV International and its partners in Kosovo have been offering Curriculum globALE for the professional training of adult educators. Curriculum globALE has now been formally recognised by the Kosovan Ministry of Education as a continuing education programme.

Curriculum globALE is a framework curriculum for training adult educators worldwide. It was developed jointly by the German Institute for Adult Education, Leibniz-Center for Lifelong Learning (DIE) and DVV International. In five modules, the programme describes the relevant skills for successful course leaders and provides guidance on practical implementation. The training courses in Kosovo were initially conducted by international experts on behalf of DVV International in order to create a core group of competent teachers to promote adult learning and education (ALE).

In order to ensure that Curriculum globALE would be offered in Kosovo over the long term, DVV International signed a cooperation agreement with the University of Pristina in March 2022 in which the university committed to offering Curriculum globALE as a non-formal continuing education programme. Since then, the Curriculum globALE has been integrated into the courses of the Faculty of Education, which provides further training for teachers from state and non-state adult learning and education institutions throughout the country. The individual modules of Curriculum globALE met with a positive response, however, it became clear that the acceptance of Curriculum globALE would be significantly increased if the programme received formal accreditation and the university could issue state-recognised certificates of completion.

Therefore, at the beginning of 2024, the University of Pristina submitted an application to the Kosovan Ministry of Education for official recognition of Curriculum globALE. Approval was granted at the end of August, signalling an important milestone on the road to the institutionalisation of Curriculum globALE in Kosovo. There are currently no separate department chairs for ALE at public or private universities in Kosovo. The state recognition of Curriculum globALE will therefore also strengthen the position of adult learning and education as a crucial element of the academic landscape in the country as a whole.
