Our long-time colleague, Dr Emir Avdagić, passed away on 3 November in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, after a long and serious illness.
Emir had worked for DVV International since 2000, during which time he founded and managed the country office in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Emir lived adult education. He continuously developed professionally and became the first Doctor of Andragogical Sciences in Bosnia and Herzegovina. He devoted all his energy to building and strengthening the Adult Learning and Education system in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The fact that there is now a legal framework for adult education throughout the country is largely thanks to him.
For other colleagues, he was a driving force as well as an important motivator and an inspirational figure, while always being friendly and helpful.
He will be remembered by us as a cheerful person full of joie de vivre who cultivated hospitality and loved music.
“I have chosen love. It’s less real and less probable, but it’s more noble. And more beautiful. Thus everything makes more sense. Death. And life.”
— Meša Selimović, Emir's favourite writer
We at DVV International are grateful for the time we shared with Emir and, along with his family, deeply mourn his loss.
