Training of teachers: Implementation of Curriculum globALE in Peru

The intercultural framework curriculum developed by DVV International and the German Institute for Adult Education is now also being implemented in Peru.

Jointly with the German Institute for Adult Education (DIE), DVV International developed Curriculum globALE, an intercultural framework for the teaching and learning of adults worldwide. In cooperation with the Peruvian University “Enrique Guzman y Valle”, the Latin American version of Curriculum globALE is now being adapted to the needs in Peru.

At the beginning of 2017, the Peruvian government adopted the new national “Curriculum on Alternative Basic Education”, which underlines the importance of adult education. Since then, the already very high demand for fully trained adult educators has increased still further throughout the country. The Enrique Guzman y Valle University, which trains young people from all over Peru to be teachers for the school system within five years, has taken this opportunity to offer Curriculum globALE as a certified supplementary qualification in the framework of the course of study. In the future, students learning to be teachers will be able to be trained additionally in adult education, for the first time with a state-recognised degree. An initial course will begin at the university in the summer of 2017.

The idea came about as part of the project work of DVV International and its Peruvian partners in adult education. In Peru, DVV International cooperates with five civil society education providers and the Peruvian Ministry of Education. In May 2017, the new training offer was presented as part of a university pedagogical congress with over 200 participants in attendance.

Already in 2016, DVV International, along with a group of curriculum development experts from Bolivia, Ecuador, Peru, El Salvador and Mexico, adapted and further developed Curriculum globALE for the needs of Latin America. In May 2017, pilot implementation of the Curriculum was successfully completed by three Cuban partner organisations. Based on this, Curriculum globalALE is now to be introduced and tested in more countries in Latin America.
