Study on Digitalisation in Adult Education in Asia

Reinforced by the effects of the pandemic, it is becoming increasingly clear that Adult Learning and Education (ALE) must also deal intensively with the increasing digitalisation of all areas of our society. On the one hand, this concerns the possibilities and changed framework conditions under which learning takes place in the digital space. On the other hand, ALE also has the task of offering educational programmes that clarify the appropriate use of virtual spaces, thus helping to counteract the often deplored digital divide.

The three DVV International project regions in Asia (Middle East, South East Asia and Central Asia) therefore decided to carry out an investigative study on the connection between digitalisation and ALE in three countries from those regions. Recommendations for various actors in ALE will be derived from them. It turns out that despite the diversity of the countries studied, Cambodia, Palestine and Tajikistan, there are considerable similarities. For example, in all three countries it was found that the situations of the disadvantaged population groups as well as the gap which exists between the ALE sector and the digital community are comparable. This indicates that the studies definitely have relevance beyond each respective country.
