UNESCO has launched a global consultation process on the future of education. This will result in a new policy report to be published in 2022. An international group of experts, under the direction of the International Council for Adult Education (ICAE) and involving numerous experts from the DVV International network, has drawn up the report entitled “Adult Learning and Education – Because the Future Cannot Wait”, which sets out the challenges we face in the future and what contribution and role adult education should play.

Christoph Jost, Director of DVV International:

“The report is a substantial and qualitatively demanding basis to better understand and communicate the potential of adult education in the coming years. The report addresses the most pressing issues of the future, such as climate change, educational equity, peacekeeping and strengthening democracy, good working conditions and digitisation. It emphasises that a transformative and participatory understanding of education is needed in order to empower people to make our planet a better place to live in and to strengthen social cohesion. To this end, youth and adult education must be seen as an integral part of lifelong learning, which, like all other areas of education, must be provided with public financial support and framework conditions.”
